No one shall do any of the following in public, including making obscene books, pamphlets, etc.:-
(a) To make, print or publish any obscene book, pamphlet, drawing, film, picture, record or any other thing which increases physical arousal or induces sexual desire or degenerate character, or to propagate through electronic communication,
(b) to buy, sell, distribute or rent out such obscene material or to display it to the general public or to keep with him with the intention of doing so,
(c) to advertise that such obscene material may be obtained from any person as such,
(d) To export or import or to carry with oneself for the purpose of selling and distributing such obscene articles.
(2) A person who commits or commits an offense under sub-section (1) shall be punished with imprisonment up to one year or a fine of up to ten thousand rupees.
(3) Notwithstanding anything written elsewhere in this section, the provisions of this section shall not apply to any work kept or made for scientific, educational, artistic, literary, research, knowledge-enhancing importance or interest or for religious purposes.
